A goal defines when a client is removed from an automation, the opposite of an entry rule, which brings them in. Choosing the right goal matters because it:
Ensures clients stop receiving messages once they’ve completed the desired action
Tracks conversions accurately, giving insight into how well your automation, messaging, and offers are performing
Common Goals include:
Making a follow-up purchase
Becoming a member
Making a reservation
Taking a class
Not every automation needs a goal. For example, if you send a single welcome text after a client’s first class, you’re engaging them rather than driving a specific action, so no goal is needed.
Adding a Goal
If you want to include a Goal in your automation, go to When should they exit the automation > Add Automation Goal.
Alternate Exit Rules
Alternate Exit Rules allow you to remove customers from automations, but they didn't meet the existing goal. By separating exit criteria and goal criteria, you can get a clearer picture of what’s driving results and better evaluate your marketing efforts. Some examples include:
The customer purchased an upsell product
User Tag was added to their account
Click Add Alternate Exit Rules to configure. Alternate Exit Rules and Goals are built the same way.
Selecting your Goal Condition
Your goal conditions will determine who exits the automation.
Customizing your Goal Condition
Each Goal Condition has a series of drill-down options. This allows you to get specific about who you are targeting to exit your automation. Each Condition can be drilled down with its unique filters.
Once you've finished customizing your Goal, click Save. You'll then see your Goal set up within the automation.
Goal Name
Click the pencil icon next to the Goal to name it. For example, if contacts exit the automation after a follow-up purchase, name it “Follow-Up Purchase.” Press Enter to save the change.
Using Multiple Goals
There may be instances where you want to include multiple goals in your automation. For example, you want to pull contacts out if they purchase OR make a future reservation. To add another Goal to your automation, click Add another Goal and follow the steps above for your new Goal.
Editing, Adding, or Removing Goals
Editing a goal after an automation has started will not affect contacts who have already met that goal. Moving forward, it will only remove contacts who meet the updated goal.
Adding a new goal does not affect the contacts who have already met other goals. Once you restart an automation with a new goal, the next time that automation processes all of the contacts who meet the new goal will be removed.
Removing a goal will not affect contacts who have already met that goal. It will simply stop removing contacts in the automation.
