Why does a contact have @inbound-sms as their email?

When someone doesn't have a contact in Xplor Growth texts the marketing number, they will appear as phonenumber@inbound-sms because the system does not have a profile to associate them with. Since every profile in XG requires an email, the system auto-assigns the inbound-sms email in order to pass the text through to the platform, which will allow the studio to text the contact back.

Potential reasons that lead contacts with phonenumber@inbound to appear in XG below:

  • The business posts their XG sms number on their website and says, “text this number for details.”

  • End user texted the number, but doesn't have a profile in MT or XG with that number yet

Once a contact profile is created in either XG or MT with an email address matching the inbound-sms number, the client’s email address will replace the @inbound-sms in the email field in XG, and their name will appear as expected.
