What are Shift Types and Job Titles, and how do they work?

Written by Jason Wiese

Shift Types and Job Titles determine how time clock activity is translated into payroll line items.

A Shift Type is a category of shift tracked in Mariana Tek, such as Front Desk, Cleaner, or Manager on Duty. Every time clock entry is associated with a Shift Type.

A Job Title is the position configured in your payroll processor. Each Job Title can have its own pay rate and is used to determine how hours are paid.

Shift Type Mapping

To map Shift Types to Job Titles, navigate to Xplor Growth > Xplor Payroll > Settings > Shift Type Configuration > Edit.

For each Shift Type, add a Job Title and Save. The same Job Title can be used multiple times. Any blank Job Title field will default to Staff.

Shift Types are automatically populated from Mariana Tek.

Running Payroll

When you run a payroll report, it reviews all time clock shifts within the selected pay period and matches each shift's Shift Type to its configured Job Title. Hours are then grouped by employee and Job Title on the report.

If you are using Xplor Payroll Processing, a Shift Type configuration is required for hourly rates.
